The Autumn Classics (1990-1992)
The Autumn Classics began in 1990 as a venue for those Players interested in the more classical style of theater - in a similar vein as Ashland's Shakespeare Festival. All three shows were directed by Erwin Rosin, and produced by Jamie Gordon. Other key personnel were Jackie Rosin, Gail Wamba and Erik Swanson.
To take advantage of Indian Summers, common in the Pacific Northwest, and as a "bookend" to the Spring Show, it was decided to have the show open Labor Day weekend.
As You Like It, by William Shakespeare, was chosen as the first Autumn Classic.It was uncertain whether audiences would welcome a late summer offering by the Players, so a minimal budget was set in place. The inaugural production of As You Like It ran for six performances and was successful enough to warrant two more Autumn Classics.
As You Like It was directed by Erwin Rosin and featured several actors new to the Players who were drawn to being able to do the Forest of Arden in a forest. Erwin added a new dimension to the show by introducing pixies three sprites (played by Dan and Richard Reade and Eric Lindvall) which introduced a magical component to the show without changing any of the words from Shakespeare.
The set designed under the direction of Gail Wamba was minimalist, except for the use of a small 'pond' on stage left. The play included signficant stage fighting with swords and staves, done under the able direction of Erwin Rosin, who as at the time working on stage fighting certications..
